FAQs - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where can I find the nearest Washington Department of Licensing?
Go to www.dol.wa.gov which is the Washington State Department of Licensing  website for location information about their offices.

Once a class is started, how much time does the student have to complete the drives? Students will start driving with us after their 3rd class and they are allowed to take one drive a week to allow plenty of practice time in between. Realistically the drives should run  6-8 weeks in length however, if  you're not getting in adequate practice time then you'll have to schedule drives farther apart.  Please keep in mind that when you sign up for drivers safety course, you're making a commitment. The commitment is between the school, the parents and the student. The parents role in this is just as important as the students because they have to supply a vehicle that is in good and safe working order, supply enough practice time as well as provide a good frame of mind in which to teach and guide their student.  The student has to make themselves available to drive. Make sure all home work is completed, etc.  and make sure they are practicing what they've learned in class & drives and apply it  while driving

I would like to start my Son in classes, but he isn't 15 1/2 yet so he will not get much practicing in before classes start.
Did you know that your student can actually get his Learners Permit when he turns 15 but is not 15 1/2 years old yet? Yes, 15 years is the minimum age to attend Traffic Safety School in Washington and obtain an instruction permit, and you do this by enrolling in a Traffic Safety Education Class, pay tuition or a down payment and the school will give you a Permit Waiver (no more than 10 days before the class starts) which you will take to the nearest DOL along with a original birth Certificate or pass port, a picture ID (school ID), and their social security # ( they don't need his social security card, just the #) and $20!   Then after all classes and drives are taken with us and your student receives their Traffic Safely Certificate, they will be allowed to take the DOL Knowledge Test and Road Test. Please go to the DOL website for the latest information concerning when those tests can be taken..

Is there anything my child needs to bring when getting her actual permit? For example a birth certificate?
She needs to bring in a Birth Certificate/Passport, Social Security Number and a photo ID. She can also pick up a “Waiver” from us to waive the written/computer exam and they will issue your daughter a permit as long as she is enrolled in a Traffic Safety Course.
